In the mirror, there are four as I turn. Four women emerging:
A dark pocket, haunted ember, sad, smudged fortune
in a missing eye, the cylinder of secret.
The confident one, fearless as a hot iron, the color of hurtling blood,
a hurricane of gypsy, gaze of the impossible, the daring cusp of endless.
My head moves to shadow—
another face, the one holding quiet rain in lidded eyes,
yesterday’s nuance fluttering between lashes.
The last, an open cavern, blank and still. Big warrior eyes,
a whisper of truth across her lips. The unspoken words are heroes,
prayers stitched sideways.
